Two Rivers Park Riverfront Improvements

Timeline

Two Rivers Park will be closed from October 7, 2019 through the end of April 2020. This closure includes the entire park and the boat ramp.

Impacts and Detours

The bike and pedestrian paths that go through Two Rivers Park will be closed to public access. This includes the path on the north side of the park, and the path on the south side of the park off of the Rio Grande Trail.

The pedestrian bridge from Two Rivers Park to 6th Street along Devereux Road is open and has fencing in place for pedestrians to avoid the construction site.

Starting the week of November 4, the pedestrian path and bridge from the Rio Grande Trail over the Colorado River will be closed at 8th Street. This closure is expected to be in place for approximately one month as construction crews rebuild the trail on the east end of the park.

Project Overview

The goal of the project is to improve the experience for recreational and family users of the park. The project will provide better public access along the river, excavate out old buried industrial materials that have become exposed from shoreline erosion, construct riparian design elements to protect and beautify the shoreline and make a number of improvements to the park amenities including:

  • Removal of the in-river railroad abutment and industrial debris along the park’s shoreline
  • Installation of a river walk trail
  • Protection of beach areas
  • Improved boat ramp and staging area
  • ADA connectivity
  • Restrooms for river users near the boat ramp
  • Landscaping along the riverfront

The City of Glenwood Springs worked with SGM, REP, and LandStudio for the planning of the project and awarded the project to Heyl Construction to complete the work in September 2019.
