Downtown Recycling Center Location Now Open at 13th and Pitkin Avenue
Glenwood Springs, CO – The City of Glenwood Springs new Recycling Center opened to the public on Tuesday December 8, 2020, reestablishing a convenient recycling center in downtown. The Recycling Center is located at 102 13th St. and is adjacent to the Rio Grande Trail. The South Canyon Landfill recycling center is currently closed while equipment is moved to the new location, however comingled recycling can still be dropped at the scale house.
South Canyon Landfill Location
From I-70, take exit 111 for South Canyon, travel 1.3 miles south on County Road 134 until you reach the Landfill on the right. The comingled recycle drop off location is located after the scale office on the left after entering the landfill. All commercial cardboard needs to weigh in at the scale office.
Glenwood Springs Recycling Center Location
102 13th Street. Enter from 13th and Pitkin Avenue to access the first gate on the left. Exit via 12th street. The access is one way through the Recycling Center.
- The recycle center is closed on Mondays but commingle (plastic #1-7, aluminum, tin), glass, and cardboard, can be dropped off at the landfill during open hours.
- No after hours drop offs available. Please do not leave recyclables at the front gate when the Recycling Center or South Canyon Landfill is closed.
- There is an recycling attendant on site to answer any questions you might have about recycling.
Clothing
Individuals can donate clothes, shoes, and other household textiles at the South Canyon Landfill in the USAgain collection bins.
- All items deposited in the collection bins must be clean, dry, and tied in a plastic bag. A sturdy plastic bag protects the items from dirt and simplifies handling.
- Accepted items include clothes, shoes, and house textiles (tablecloths, towels, bedding, blankets, etc.). regardless of condition.
- Unacceptable items include mattresses, furniture, appliances, carpet, and trash.
Individuals may drop off 30 gallon bags of household trash for $4 each (maximum up to 6 bags) when also dropping off recyclables.
Individuals who wish to participate in this program must stop at the scale office contact onsite or recycle center tech first to declare their total number of 30 gallon bags of household trash, pay the appropriate fee to the attendant.
This program is available during normal recycle center hours of operation.
Important note: Any Recycle Containers contaminated with trash or non-recyclable materials will require the entire contents of the container be disposed of as trash.

- Plastic Bags and/or Trash
- Pyrex or Cookware
- Mirrors, Windows, & Light Bulbs
- Windshields
Items Accepted:
- Paper books
- Phonebooks
- Large catalogues
- Beer/Soda/Pizza boxes
- All paper materials suited for the composting process
- Paper egg cartons
- Toilet paper & paper towel rolls
Items Prohibited:
- All plastic & glass materials not suited for the composting process
- No organics: No grass clippings, leaves, manure, and stall bedding
- Magazines and catalogs
- Newspapers including the inserts
- Slick (shiny) junk mail
- Office paper

- Plastic bags or plastic materials of any kind
- Bundled or tied newspapers
- Hardback books
Household Batteries
We accept residential batteries at the Recycle Center at no cost. Please note that vehicle batteries are not accepted at the Recycle Center, only the Landfill office.
We do not accept plastic bags at this facility. Thank you for not leaving them in any of our seven containers or on the recycling grounds. Please reuse or dispose of them properly. City Market and Wal-Mart have bag drop-offs.

Toxic and Hazardous Waste
No toxic or hazardous wastes accepted. Used motor oil can be taken to any local lube shop or to Checker Auto Parts during regular business hours.
Electronic Waste
We accept electronics, i.e., TV's, stereos, speakers, computer printers, and copy machines for a fee as established by the recycling agency. We accept light fixtures, i.e., incandescent bulbs, fluorescent, sodium, metal halide, for a fee.
