[ARCHIVED] City of Glenwood Springs Kicks Off Parks and Recreation Month with Fourth of July Celebration

The month of July is Parks and Recreation Month in Glenwood Springs.

The City kicks off the festivities with an Independence Day celebration at Two Rivers Park, on July 4th at 5 pm. Throughout the rest of the month, the Glenwood Springs Parks and Recreation Department will be celebrating with free Zumba in the park, Summer of Music concerts, little league, a Parks Scavenger Hunt and more!

Parks and Recreation Month is an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), designed to highlight all the ways parks and recreation has the power to transform our daily lives. From providing us places to play, get fit and stay healthy to fostering new relationships and forging a connection with nature, our close-to-home community park and recreation facilities provide essential services and improve quality of life.

Glenwood Springs is one of the top outdoor recreation destinations in Colorado. “Our open spaces are a treasure trove of outdoor recreation opportunities; with the scenic Roaring Fork and Colorado rivers, river side beaches, pavilions, fishing, sports fields, archery range, cycling, playgrounds, and miles of beautified nature trail systems throughout the surrounding areas” says Parks and Recreation Director Brian Smith.

The signature event for the Glenwood Springs’ Parks and Recreation Month celebration will be the Day to Play from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., July 29 at the Glenwood Springs Community Center. During the event, there will be FREE entry to the Community Center, membership discounts, free fitness classes, inflatables and games for kids, giveaways, equipment demonstrations and food vendors!
