[ARCHIVED] Demolition of Old Wastewater Treatment Plant Closes Pedestrian Tunnel

The pedestrian tunnel between the Rio Grande Trail and the 7th Street wastewater treatment plant will be closed starting today through late winter or early spring.

Parking will also be impacted at the 101 W 7th Street lot during the demolition and once it is complete.

Gould Construction has begun the demolition of the old wastewater treatment plant at 101 W 7th Street and is approximately 20% complete. Razing the old concrete structures will open the area to revitalization, as detailed in the Confluence Redevelopment Plan and forthcoming Area-Wide Plan.

The old wastewater treatment plant was built in the late 1970s. The city opened a new sewer plant in 2012, just west of the Municipal Operations Center and the RFTA facility on Midland Avenue.
