Recent power outages in Glenwood Springs have been due to the Xcel Energy project occurring in Glenwood Canyon. Xcel Energy is working on replacing and repairing approximately 30 transmission and 10 distribution structures throughout the Glenwood Canyon and in the White River National Forest.
The Xcel Energy Shoshone/Rifle transmission line from Shoshone in Glenwood Canyon serves the Glenwood Springs Mitchell Creek substation and New Castle.
A statement from Xcel Energy explained, “The work is taking place between the Shoshone Hydroelectric Plant and the City of Glenwood Springs and is expected to be complete by the end of October. Due to windy weather and other factors recently, residents in the area lost power for a period of time on a few occasions over the past week. Xcel Energy crews believe they have found the cause of these outages and were able to repair them.
Xcel Energy appreciates your patience during this construction work. Questions about the project can be directed to info@xcelenergyglenwoodcanyon.com or 970-989-3860. Details on the project are also available on the website at www.xcelenergy.com/glenwood.”
