[ARCHIVED] CONEZONE: 27th Street Closure Update

Tentative Schedule (Weather and Concrete Curing Dependent)

  • The roundabout including the S. Grand Ave. legs and mountable truck apron are anticipated to open the evening of Tuesday, December 17
  • The 27th Street Bridge and roadway is anticipated to open to both directions of traffic on the evening of Saturday, December 21

Currently concrete is curing on the east side of the bridge at the roundabout and crews are making preparations on west side for concrete pours on Tuesday. Quality control testing is ongoing for the concrete to ensure sufficient strength for opening to traffic. The concrete takes between three and four days to reach sufficient strength for cars to safely drive on. Crews will also seal the concrete prior to opening the roundabout and the roadway.

Please plan to continue to use the 8th Street detour until the roadway is fully reopened. The pedestrian bridge remains open and has no closures currently scheduled.  Anticipate construction noise and lights throughout the night for night work. All major traffic impacts on the 27th Street traffic bridge are anticipated to be complete Saturday, December 21, weather permitting.

Remaining work includes construction of a few minor walls, a guardrail replacement, wall facades, some drainage work, landscaping, and wall coatings. The walls and guardrail replacement will be completed in January 2020 with alternating lanes of traffic during off peak hours. The rest of the work is outside of the roadway platform.

Thank you for your patience and stay tuned as updates to the schedule will be announced via ConeZone and will be updated on the project information line, 618-5379.
