Traffic Impacts and Construction Update for the week of Feb. 29 – Mar. 6, 2016

Project Message from the Public Information Team:

The Grand Avenue Bridge project is on pace to meet our first project milestone. This a win for the entire community and project team. Milestone 1 includes completion of the south causeway and installation of the temporary pedestrian walkway along the traffic bridge. March will be an exciting month as the construction team begins the deconstruction of the pedestrian bridge. The deconstruction and transport of the pedestrian bridge will be a 3-week project beginning March 1st. You will want to come downtown and see all the action. Stay tuned next week for a schedule of the deconstruction and information about relocating the pedestrian bridge to Coach Miller Drive and Midland Avenue.

Traffic Impacts
I-70 Exit 116 Eastbound
Interstate 70 Exit 116 eastbound off-ramp will be in a one-lane configuration for several months. The one-lane closure is necessary for utility work in the area. NEW: Beginning Friday Mar. 4, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. through Sunday, Mar. 6th both the eastbound on and off ramps will be closed. Eastbound on bound traffic will be detoured to I-70 Exit 114.

State Highway 82 Grand Avenue Bridge
Grand Avenue Bridge from 6th St. to 8th St. will have periodic variable lane closures in each direction from 9:00 a.m.– 3:00 p.m. The contractor will be working on the deconstruction of the pedestrian bridge.

River Street
Restricted vehicular access. Traffic control in the area.

Interstate 70 Eastbound Exit 116
Eastbound at Exit 116 will be reduced to one-lane traffic. This will be the condition throughout Phase II. Speed limit reduced to 40 mph in this area.

7th St. from Colorado Avenue to Cooper Avenue will be closed for several weeks.

New: Recreational Impacts
The temporary pedestrian walkway will be open by March 1st. All pedestrian traffic will be routed to the pedestrian walkway.

River Closures March 1 – March 13
The Colorado River will be closed at the Grand Avenue Bridge beginning Mar. 1 – Mar. 13. On Sunday, March 6th the river will be open, no construction activity is anticipated. The river closure is necessary for overhead crane work.

Glenwood Trail Closure at Two Rivers Park
The Glenwood Trail crossing at Two Rivers Park and I-70 Exit 116 is closed for approximately 4 weeks. Crews are working on a utility project in the area.

Parking Impacts
Parking along the north lane of 7th St. from Colorado Avenue to Cooper Avenue will be closed throughout Phase I and Phase II of the project.

Updated: Utility Work – Project Start-Up March 7th

Utility work for the Grand Avenue Bridge project includes the relocation/upgrade to the current below ground utilities including new water lines and storm sewer lines. Also, new fiber optic and copper lines for cable television, internet and communications along with new electrical lines for lighting in this area. Excavation will begin on Monday, March 7th on both the west and east wing streets. The utility work is estimated to be complete by early summer. During construction, a 6-foot fence will be installed in the project area to create a barrier from the construction activities. The fencing will be in place until the end of this scope of work for public safety. Pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained. This will be an impactful project, please support your local businesses.
