ROCKFALL MITIGATION

South Midland crews have completed installation of the anchors for the wire mesh rockfall protection. In locations where soil nail walls are installed in steep cut slopes, mesh and netting will also be installed for additional rockfall protection. Next week, South Midland project crews will begin uphill soil nail wall work which will add stability to the soil.

The soil nail walls reinforce the soil and provide stability to the steep soil slope with bars (nails) installed into deep, pre-drilled holes. Then shotcrete (concrete technique) is applied to the face, to grout the reinforcing nails.

IRRIGATION WORK & NEW WATER MAIN

Crews are making good progress on the irrigation ditch line that will extend under Three Mile Road. Gould Construction is also anticipating starting water line work this week along South Midland within the proposed roundabout area and at the Three Mile creek crossing. Crews will be replacing the existing 12” water main line with a new 18” line.

This improvement is an important conveyance upgrade for the longevity of infrastructure in South Midland and with help the City ensure quality water service. The upsized line will increase capacity for meeting water service needs and adds conveyance capacity for firefighting capabilities. This line will later be connected into a new water storage tank in Cardiff.
