[ARCHIVED] I-70 Closure & Please Suspend Outdoor Water Use

road closed

I-70 is closed in both directions between Exit 133 (Dotsero) and Exit 116 (Main Glenwood Springs exit) due to a mudslide in the Glenwood Canyon. The closure points are eastbound mile point 87/West Rifle and westbound Exit 133/Dotsero. Motorists traveling WB can access CO 82 Independence Pass as well.

This is an EXTENDED CLOSURE and motorists are encouraged to utilize the alternate route (Please see map below). The alternate route is CO 13 Rifle to Craig, east on US 40 to Steamboat over Rabbit Ears Pass to Kremmling down CO 9 to Silverthorne.

Please do not use travel applications to look for alternate routes. There are many auxiliary roads such as Cottonwood Pass, Hagerman Pass and Eagle/Thomasville Road that are not passable and do not have cell service. Cottonwood Pass is restricted to local traffic only.

Crews report the flow to be between 6 and 10 feet deep and 70 foot wide. No injuries or trapped vehicles have been reported.

Please check https://cotrip.org for the most up-to-date information.

City of Glenwood Springs water crews are evaluating water treatment with current heavy rains. Residents are asked to temporarily suspend outdoor water use. Updates will be sent as they become available.
