Moving Along: Roundabout Construction and Utility Infrastructure Upgrades
The new roundabout construction on the intersection of Four Mile and South Midland is in full swing, with materials curing nicely as progress continues on the first half. Other construction activities continue in the roundabout, including include grading, installation of new storm drainage and utilities to serve the South Glenwood area. Some Saturday construction will also continue, while no Sunday work is anticipated in the near future. South Midland construction crews are working hard to meet multiple seasonal deadlines to complete critical roadway improvements. Motorists, pedestrians and cyclists are asked to use caution and follow detour signage. All construction activities and the project schedule are weather-dependent and subject to change.
Pothole Patience
Thank you, motorists, for being patient with the current variable road conditions. Milling (removal) of the remaining asphalt between Park West and the north leg of the new Four Mile roundabout is slated for this week, weather-dependent. This removal will make maintenance on the interim road surface easier, while work progresses to install the necessary utilities and roadway subgrade for the new road.
Follow the Flaggers, Not the Trucks
Motorists are asked to avoid following construction trucks driving in and out of work zones. Please stay in the designated car lanes and pay attention to the flaggers and posted driving directions.
Next CCC Meeting is Sept. 1
The next meeting of the South Midland Community Communications Coalition (CCC) is on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, from 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Sullivan Park in Glenwood Springs. The project construction team will be on hand to answer questions and provide updates.
About the South Midland Reconstruction Project
The 18-month-long reconstruction project will better serve the South Glenwood Springs Community for years to come. The South Midland corridor had been prone to potholes, poor site lines, regular rockfall events, and there were gaps in pedestrian infrastructure amidst the backdrop of rising traffic volumes. Approximately one-third of Glenwood Springs residents use this corridor, so that is why it is critical to Keep South Midland Moving. Construction activities began in December 2020 and will continue through Summer 2022.
